Here at FLAMANKO we always want to stay #AheadOfTheCurve when it comes to social media. So this week when we heard about the new platform ‘Vero’ we jumped on to see what it is all about!
So what do we know about Vero?
It is the latest social media app competing for your attention. As a consumer you’re probably thinking “ok I already have Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter… the list goes on, what is this ‘Vero’ going to offer me that I don’t already have?” Well it appears A LOT.
The word ‘Vero’ is Italian for ‘true’ and the core idea behind the service is that it will provide a social media network that never runs ads and is not dictated by algorithms. *Cough. Cough. Facebook*
“The feed is composed of your posts and the posts of people you’re either connected with or people you follow,” Vero says. “We don’t curate it, manipulate it, insert advertising in it, or hold back posts. You see what has been shared with you, when it’s been shared with you.”
The service will be subscription based, like Netflix, Spotify etc… for a ‘small annual fee’. The first 1 million people to sign up will however get a free lifetime membership. (I jumped on, you should, you’ve got nothing to lose!)
“Our subscription model will allow us to keep Vero advertising-free, and to focus solely on delivering the best social experience instead of trying to find new ways to monetise our users’ behaviour or tricking them back into the app with notifications.”
What is in it for us Social Media Marketing Folk?
Well, even though there is no advertising capabilities, this could actually be marketing gold for businesses! We go on and on about the importance of storytelling marketing to create engaging and authentic content. Well on Vero, you create ‘collections’ of content that include:

So this is an amazing step forward to creating an engaged community of followers! People want to know who you are and why you do what you do. Vero is going to help you create meaningful connections with your followers.
Other features beneficial to your business is that you can click straight through to Point Of Sale. This is where Vero will make a lil cash, if a sale is made from a direct conversion from the platform, they take a small percentage. Again, this is in an effort to never have to feature advertising in the interface of the App.
It is too soon to tell whether or not Vero is jumping up to the big league and becoming a serious threat to Facebook and Instagram, however celebrities are starting jumping ship as algorithm changes diminish their following and engagement. Kylie Jenner was noted as the cause of Snapchat losing over a billion dollars in one day from just one tweet.
So if pop culture is anything to go by, Vero could soon be the next household name!
